The Women’s Studies program accepts and reviews applications for the Ella Carpenter Jensen fellowship (awarded to female graduate students in Family, Home, and Social Sciences) and the Beverley Nalder Scholarship (for undergraduate, single parents majoring in behavioral sciences). These awards are made during winter semester for the following academic year. The following scholarships will be available for the 2012-2013 academic year:
The Ella Carpenter Jensen Scholarship
Clarence Jensen established this scholarship in memory of his wife Ella Carpenter jensen to support the graduate work of women studying in the Family, Home, and Social Sciences college. "In 1986, LDS women were not pursuing education in the way they currently do. Grateful for what Ella had done for him, Clarence wanted to help support LDS women’s investment in education, especially beyond the bachelor’s degree. The Beverley Nalder Scholarship

Women's Studies Academic Conference Travel Grant

The Women’s Studies program encourages student presentations at academic conferences and symposia pertaining to women’s issues. If you are a currently enrolled BYU student and have been accepted to give a presentation at a meeting related to women, you may be eligible for a travel grant of up to $250. Please submit your presentation proposal, the mail confirming the acceptance of your paper, and a link to the conference website. Send these in an e-mail to womenstudies@byu.edu, specifying “Conference Travel Grant” in the subject line.
Possible venues include, but are not limited to the National Women’s Studies Association Annual Conference, the Feminist Art History Conference, the Western Association of Women Historians, the Mormon History Association (panels on women), Attending to Early Modern Women, GEMELA, Congreso Anual de la Asociación Internacional de Literatura y Cultura Femenina Hispánica, the Berkshire Conference on the History of Women, the Arizona State University Women in French Conference, the Sociologists for Women in Society Winter Meeting, the Association for Women in Psychology Annual Conference, and the Idaho State University Art of Gender Conference.
ORCA Grants
BYU's Office of Research and Creative Activities (ORCA) offers grants to undergraduate students for faculty-guided research. This is a great oppurtunity for Women's Studies students to gain experience in research, further their education, and make a significant contribution to research on women's lives and women's issues. Interested students should contact a Women's Studies faculty affiliate or professor focused in their field of interest. A list of affiliates can be found here.
