Special Lecture: Gender Relations in India
Special Lecture: Gender Relations in India Maina Chawla Singh is Scholar-in-Residence, School of International Service, American University where she teaches courses on South Asia, Gender and World Politics and Indian Diaspora Communities with a focus on Migration and Identity. Singh has published several scholarly articles on gender and colonialism in India and is the author of Gender, Religion, and ‘Heathen Lands’: American Missionary Women in South Asia (1860s – 1940s), (New York: 2000). Her second book Being Indian, Being Israeli : Migration, Ethnicity and Gender in the Jewish Homeland. (2009; Reprint :2014) is based on 150 interviews conducted among Indian Jews in Israel. Her current research projects include a study of overseas Indians in the French Caribbean Islands. Dr Singh is deeply engaged with the emergence of Indian Americans in US Politics and has hosted several events at American University highlighting these trends. 3 p.m. – 4 p.m. @ EIZ Theater (B192 JFSB)

Sexual Assault Awareness Event Dr. Lindsay Orchowski is a Staff Clinical Psychologist at Rhode Island Hospital, and Assistant Professor (Research) at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She also serves as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for the Alpert Medical School. Her research focuses on the design and evaluation of theory-driven sexual assault prevention programs. She assisted in the study on campus over the summer by invitation from President Worthen's BYU Advisory Council on Campus Response to Sexual Assault. She will speak on her research on and knowledge of campus sexual assault. 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. @ 250 SWKT
